Operations

Fire departments are designed to provide the best possible emergency response service based on the predicted needs of the community.  The men and women of Canby Fire District provide firefighting, rescue, and ambulance service for over 54 square miles and over 30,000 citizens. It’s our job to be there - any time, any place – that a citizen in Canby Fire District needs our help.

There are four “on shift” firefighters and paramedics on duty at Canby Fire District’s main fire station on South Pine Street, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a week.  Led by a Shift Captain, these four highly trained professionals’ staff fire engines, ambulances and water tenders as needed depending on the nature of the emergency request. Photos of Career Firefighters A Shift, B Shift and C Shift.

Canby Fire also has a Duty Chief on call, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days per week.  Duty Chiefs are experienced incident command officers that are in charge of major incidents such structure fires, traffic accidents, or water rescues, and are also responsible for all deployment decisions as resources fluctuate. Chief Officers also have significant administrative responsibilities, being either the Fire Chief, or one of three Division Chief’s supervising the Training, EMS or Fire Prevention Division. The Duty Chief’s rotate duty coverage in one-week intervals.

Canby Fire District volunteer firefighters are called in when needed for fires, traffic accidents, or simultaneous medical emergencies that can’t be covered by full-time personnel.  These dedicated volunteers can be called out at any time of the day or night.  They also attend training one night a week, every week, to keep their emergency skills current.

Canby Fire District also participates with Canby Police Department’s Tactical Entry Team, providing Tactical Medics. Click here to learn more about the Tactical Medic Program.

Canby Fire responds to more than two thousand 911 generated emergencies and transports more than one thousand sick or injured patients to area hospitals each year. In addition to emergency response, Canby Firefighter’s train at least one-hour per day, maintain their equipment and apparatus in a “mission ready” status at all times, provide fire station tours and fire engine show offs, conducting fire and life safety business inspections, and dedicate time towards personal fitness and wellness.

As you can see, the Canby Fire District motto of Serve, Educate, Train, and Protect is the cornerstone of our operational division.
